PCM Interview: Logan Phippen, cyclist of Team Novo Nordisk

The mission of Team Novo Nordisk

Each time Logan and his teammates put on a jersey from Team Novo Nordisk, they also take on the role of ambassadors for a cause. As the CEO and co-founder of the team, and former professional cyclist, Phil Southerland says, “…we are a unique team and we have a unique message to convey, the work that each member of this team does is what sustains us…”. And the task seems to be succeeding, in Phippen’s view:

Yes, I would say so. Because primarily, we just want people to be confident in themselves with whatever they’re dealing with, whether they’re dealing with diabetes or not. For the team, that is the main goal: to inspire and empower people impacted by diabetes. But I think we can go further because everyone, to some degree, is dealing with something. And when they can have a positive influence to communicate and be open about what they’re going through and work towards finding ways to improve their lives, whether it’s with exercise or whatever they’re drawn towards, I think that it’s really been a tremendous outlet for people. And I see more people now that are much more open about having diabetes. Whereas before, it was always kept obscure and hidden, and nobody talked about it. But now it’s like we can have diabetes and still be proud of ourselves. We haven’t failed. We have the opportunity of success and living a full and meaningful life.
