2. Michael Mørkøv – chosen by Joe Laverick
Michael Mørkøv has long been heralded as the best lead-out man in the world. If we put a sprinter on his wheel, more often than not, they will win. In 2020, he had already been crucial for Sam Bennett and in 2021 he returned to the Tour to make history with Mark Cavendish. The 36-year-old Dane has been so good at his job, it has jokingly been suggested that he has to touch his brakes to ensure that Cavendish comes past him and wins. Whether it’s a bunch or intermediate sprint, Mørkøv’s wheel is the one every sprinter dreams about. Even in the highest of mountains, he was there to help Cavendish make the time-cut. If the ‘Manx-Missile’ conquered the Green-Jersey and took four stage wins, he must thank Michael Mørkøv.
