Portuguese Cycling Magazine has just launched a partnership with NAKED Optics, an Austrian brand specialising in high-performance sports equipment and accessories. The first model to reach us was the Blade – glasses designed for athletes who, in all situations and on every terrain, value comfort and safety without giving up on style.

This model is designed to adapt to various light conditions thanks to its interchangeable and customisable lens system, available in 7 colours and 5 categories – from CAT. 0 to CAT. 4 – with UV protection up to UV400. Its polarised black lens reduces glare and protects against UVA and UVB rays.

With intense challenges in mind, NAKED Optics equipped the Blade with an innovative ventilation system: two small vents in the lens allow hot air to escape while keeping the wind out – it may sound simple, but it’s a technical detail that makes all the difference on tough climbs or even on humid days.
In addition, all lenses come with a nano-HD coating that enhances contrast and repels water, ensuring a clean and sharp view at all times.
♻️ Sustainability in sight
The Austrian brand goes even further and keeps sustainability front and centre. The Blade’s frame is made from 50% CO₂RE®, a bioplastic derived from castor oil. This plant-based material significantly reduces the product’s carbon footprint without compromising durability or the lightweight feel of the glasses.

Our test team has already put the Blade to the test – and the praise didn’t take long:
“Super comfortable, you barely notice they’re on your face. The build feels solid but light, and they fit perfectly even with different Specialized helmets.”
The nosepiece and anti-slip rubber work flawlessly, ensuring stability even on longer rides. We tested the CAT. 2 lenses, which are ideal for cloudy days, but they performed well in full sun too:
“During a 5-hour ride I felt no discomfort – the glasses didn’t move or become noticeable. Even though they’re more suited to grey skies, they held up well under the sun. You just notice that the view takes on a cooler tone.”
We were also impressed by the protection and wide field of vision, no matter your position on the bike:
“You can’t see the frame. On both road and gravel routes, even through tighter sections, the performance was excellent. They provide great protection from wind and insects, especially on descents. Even riding in the drops, visibility stays wide – just like when riding on the hoods.”
